Stylz owner, Tom Roy, tells the story
of how his dynamic fitness center came to be:
Since the introduction
of Les Mills International, the people who provide us
with the exercise programs BODYPUMP,
BODYSTEP, BODYFLOW and
BODYCOMBAT, Fitness Stylz
has grown at a phenomenal rate. Our club was founded in
July of 2000 and offered nothing more than a weight room
and a small number of cardio bikes. (We didn't even have
a treadmill!) The entire club fit into only 3,000 square
feet, and our membership was holding steady at about 38
people.
Thanks to Les Mills, we grew in size and membership each
year, until we were bursting at the seams with no physical
space left to expand into. Our Les Mills exercise studio
had a capacity of just 32 people, and by the spring of
2005, BODYPUMP classes were maxing out at an alarming
rate. We actually had to move to a ‘token’
system, with class space ‘tokens’ being passed
out to the first 32 people to arrive for each class!
As you can imagine, people who arrived too late to get
into class were not the ‘happiest campers in the
park.’ The popularity of BODYPUMP, which had been
the catalyst of our incredible growth in membership, was
quickly becoming our greatest liability!
In the summer of 2005, I was forced to make the most monumental
decision of my entire business career: to purchase, renovate
and move into a larger building just down the street from
our original location. We are currently occupying 14,400
square feet, have over 400 members and are located at
17 Depot Street in downtown Livermore Falls, Maine.
Our current location has been a true ‘Labor of Love,’
designed to reward and nurture the warm, friendly and
inviting nature of our members and staff. It features
a café and pro-shop at the front, followed by the
main counter, tanning rooms and Studio One. (Studio One
is where our Les Mills ‘Exertainment’, life-changing
experiences take place.) The weight and cardio rooms are
also on this floor, and feature free weights, machines,
treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers, bikes and, of
course, TVs. The lower floor features three more studios:
Studio Two, Studio Three and Studio Four.
Studio Three is dedicated to our Play Skillz program.
With its colorful décor and huge supply of toys
and games, there is no mistaking that it was designed
to appeal to children!
Studio Four is home to Da Capo Dance School, which is
operated by local dance instructor, Erica McDonald. Erica
teaches Jazz and Tap to kids of all ages. Due to popular
request, she has recently added Adult Tap to her class
schedule.
Studio Two is currently in use as an instructor training
room. It was designed to accommodate martial arts-based
activities, and is available for rent to interested martial
arts instructors.
Our lower floor also houses locker/shower rooms (currently
under construction,) additional bathrooms, an employee
break room and a personal training office. The lower floor
also features our rear entrance, accessible during regular
hours of operation.
I have been extremely pleased with the support our members
have shown, and I am absolutely thrilled to be able to
offer a fitness center of this caliber to the local community!
All of the support over the last five years is greatly
appreciated and has resulted in something very special.
We hope to see you in here and look forward to showing
you everything that makes Fitness Stylz
a different kind of fitness center. Despite our small
town location, Fitness Stylz was built
to be a “World Class” fitness center, without
losing our warm, friendly and nurturing ‘family’
environment!
